A farm is missing something with out the sounds of a rooster crowing or the cackle of a hen who’s just laid an egg.
We have a small flock of hens – Black Australorps, Buff Orpingtons, and Rhode Island Reds, as well as a few mixed breed that are producing an abundance of great tasting brown eggs. Our hens are fed free choice a commercial (non-medicated) food formulated for laying hens. During the day they range free on our pastures eating grasses and grains, and clean up any scraps that the sheep have left behind. At night they return to the coop for a safe night’s sleep.
